Reduce Your Carbon Footprint at the Same Time

1. As simple as it sounds, a very easy way to save is to make sure all lights that are not needed or in use are turned off. For even more savings, replace all the old, filament bulbs in your home or business with LED bulbs, which are far more energy-efficient. Finally, another option is to switch to task, track, and under-counter lighting where possible instead of ceiling lights, as they use less electricity.
2. Making use of natural light from the sun is also an effective way to save. Instead of using a bulb and electricity, just use the bright sunlight!
3. If your water heater is electric, try and cut down the amount of time you spend in the shower, and turn off the water while shaving, washing your hands, and brushing your teeth.
4. Be sure to unplug your electronic devices when you’re not using them. If you still primarily use a desktop, switch to a laptop model, as they are more energy-efficient.
5. Turn off appliances when they aren’t in use, such as window air conditioners. Recycle or donate older television sets. Try not to use the oven during the summer; grill more instead. Always throw a full load in the washer and use cold water. If it’s nice outside, dry your clothes outside over a line instead of using the dryer. Keep your fridge and freezer at the recommended manufacturer settings. Skip the heat-dry cycle on your dishwasher. And finally, use the microwave, crock pot, or toaster oven instead of the oven when possible, as they all use less energy.
